Green light for Örnsköldsvik Airport

02 November 09:11

- I am very happy to say that we now have an unconditional operational approval for ATS service from RTC to Örnsköldsvik, says Erik Bäckman, Head of Unit at RTC. The 1st of November the decision about continuing remote-controlled ATS from Örnsköldsviks Airport was approved by the Swedish Transport Agency.

– Örnsköldsvik Airport became the world's first airport to feature Remote Tower Services in april 2015. Since we recieved the first operational approval, the Swedish Transport Agency has continuously wanted to see operational monitoring reports and that,  with the help of our operational experience, we can improve certain procedures and methods while using the system. This meant that the first operation approval was conditional and hade a date set. In mid-October this year we sent additions to the Transport Agency, says Bäckman.

The Swedish Transport Agency has now reviewed the submitted documentation against applicable requirements and they have seen that the operation monitoring report contains the requested revision that clarifies that the requirements are met.

– This shows that The Swedish Transport Agency and LFV agree that remote air traffic services can be done in a safe and efficient way. I want to say thank you to those who worked to extend the operating authorization of Ornskoldsvik at RTC and ensured that we responded against the requirements of the Transport Agency, says LFV General-Director Olle Sundin.
