The upgrade is part of COOPANS (Austria, Denmark, Croatia, Ireland and Sweden) coordinated release plan for commissioning improved versions of the TOPSKY (COOPANS) software in our 7 centres in Europe. This version will provide improved functionality within several areas such as Medium Term Conflict Detection (MTCD), Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC), automatic coordination via OLDI, label indicators, automatic processing of OLDI messages, in all providing improved safety and support for the controllers to serve our customers.
The upgrade will take place during the night between the 20th and 21st of January 2017 for systems in Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg and connected TWR's.
When traffic allows, preliminary around 22:00 UTC, we will switch to our fall-back systems and start the upgrade which will take around 2 hours. During the fall-back system operations it might, in order to maintain safety, be needed to temporarily decrease our capacity. It is our outmost goal to limit the impact by monitoring the predicted traffic volumes and only set restrictions if needed.
The commission is a regular software update. For the adjacent ATS units this means no related technical changes or changes of procedures. Test flight plans will be sent to certain ATS. When TOPSKY systems are online again, we will return to normal capacities and operations.
